tsaADVET are working closely with Tata Steel to create an Autodesk Inventor add-in to allow auto naming of drawing sheets, creation and import including population and extraction of title block information. Therefore
allowing CAB-i-NET to manage the approval, issue, and revision of the drawings produced from Inventor. Inventor is starting to be widely used for Mechanical design in many CAB-i-NET customers and this added functionality will be available within the core CAB-i-NET system for customers to use if required.
tsaADVET is pleased to announce the forth coming release of the CAB-i-NET Explorer software.
The development teams have been extremely busy over the last few months working with both existing customers and prospects to deliver enhanced changes to the software. These include:-
- Ability to auto number projects and files when a folder structure is copied therefore streamlining even further new project creation.
- Management of CAD workspaces within the CAB-i-NET environment which can also be created automatically by combining with the above new project creation functionality.
- File naming has been enhanced to allow Keywords to also contribute to the numbering of documents. This allows standards including BS1192, BIPS (Danish standard covering construction, information technology, productivity, collaboration) to be easily configured within CAB-i-NET with no customisation.
- Ability to create Local Working Copy of a file and can be used with any application including Autodesk REVIT.
- External databases can be linked to via an SQL query or view so data from other systems i.e. Financial system can be extracted and used in keywords within CAB-i-NET.
- Enhanced reference file capability allowing users to decide various options for updating and attaching references that have changed within the system.
- Intelligent Data Link allows the automatic extraction of pages, sheets, layouts and models from files held within CAB-i-NET.
- Support for Office 2010.
There are also many other changes to modules within the CAB-i-NET Suite. All customers on maintenance will be able to update to these new versions of the software when they are released.

tsaADVET were asked by the Danish Bentley Data Management SIG to present the CAB-i-NET Suite of products.
The meeting took place at COWI offices just outside Copenhagen and was attended by members of the group who currently use various systems including Bentley ProjectWise with some using no systems. A two hour presentation with the majority of the time being live demonstrations of CAB-i-NET being used to manage the creation and work flowing documents and drawings around a distributed organisation. Areas also included how CAB-i-NET can be effectively used to process drawings and documents being received from contractors including later versions during the life of the project.
Note: COWI A/S is an international consulting group, specialising in engineering, environmental science and economics, based in Lyngby, Denmark.
tsaADVET have been using the advantage of being an Autodesk Developer to extend the capabilities of CAB-i-NET so Building Information Models (BIM) designed in Autodesk Revit can be managed.
Using CAB-i-NET’s existing configurable direct store capabilities, Revit models can be created and shared collaboratively. CAB-i-NET’s highly configurable workflows can also be applied, therefore allowing customers to apply their required processes for access and revision etc.
Customers have been asking for this capability so it is now available in the core CAB-i-NET application. This therefore means no additional expenditure is required and can be simply enabled through configuration.
tsaADVET have partnered up with Autodesk and become a member of the Autodesk Developer Network (ADN). This investment helps to highlight
tsaADVET’s commitment and drive to ensure that the CAB-i-NET suite of products is forever moving forward. The main short term purpose of becoming an ADN member is to further develop CAB-i-NET Explorer’s integration with Autodesk’s range of products, particularly focusing on Architecture, Inventor and Revit.
tsaADVET Ltd will be holding a Tata Steel CAB-i-NET User Group on the 22nd or 24th Feb 2011 @ Ashorne Hill. http://www.ashornehill.co.uk/pages/index.php
Time: 10.30am – 3pm allowing people to travel to/from most sites in the day.
We will present an update on CAB-i-NET Software Suite, CAB-i-NET SAP Interface, suggestions for software changes and Bob Emmett, Manager, Engineering Drawing & Design Services, will present CAB-i-NET in use at Port Talbot, specifically focused on Project and Job files. A more detailed agenda will be issued nearer the time.
If you or any of your colleagues wish to attend please feel free to contact us.
We are pleased to announce the completion of tsaADVET’s latest purpose-built warehouse.
Now for the big move, which will take approximately two to three weeks.
tsaADVET was pleased to be able to support the IMGS customer day by giving a short 20 minute CAB-i-NET
presentation focused on the creation, workflow and issuing of documents and CAD drawings. This resulted in a good interactive question and answer session. Many attendees have already requested further information on the CAB-i-NET range of software solutions.
IMGS gave a good overview of their software solutions including live web demonstrations of Location Publisher (link to http://www.imgs.ie/index/IMGS_LP) allowing access to powerful interactive maps with spatially referenced information organised into themes (e.g. Environment, Recreation, Planning, Roads etc.). Static information can also be published such as asset location and type, as well as real-time traffic congestion, engineer location information etc.
April 30th will see the latest CAB-i-NET Versions released. This includes many changes in functionality to
CAB-i-NET Explorer allowing thumbnails of images to be created, improved support for AutoCAD™ including nested XREF’s, attachment of DWF and PDF files, speed improvements for operating on slow WAN connections to name a few. There are also numerous updates to CAB-i-NET Workflow module including the ability to run third party macros during the processing of files and changes to resolving reference files etc.
CAB-i-NET Transmittal module has been enhanced to allow better searching for documents, support for distribution groups, native or published files and associated references (if applicable) can be packaged with the transmittal documents. The file packages (zip file) can be either saved automatically into a CAB-i-NET Explorer folder or exported from the system. Customers who have been involved with the developments believe they will gain significant benefits through the introduction of these updated modules.
