Ray Dudding Principal IT Consultant from Atkins
“CAD standards are notoriously difficult to apply, even within a single project, let alone across different functions and different offices! We need to have a standard in place and know that it’s the same whether you’re working in Glasgow or Croydon or Dubai. CAB-i-NET gives us the ability to apply those standards, and without it we simply couldn’t have done it.”
Nigel Moore Senior Design Engineer from Corus
“We’ve proactively gone out to encourage each plant to get their own drawings scanned into CAB-i-NET – obviously it’s in their interest to have them available via the new system, so it is worth the effort for us and them to get the job done properly. We started off focused on CAD drawings, but quickly came to appreciate that CAB-i-NET as a tool is suitable for so much more – with SAP on the horizon, we’ve seen a great deal of interest in the product from our Commercial, QA and other departments. Who knows where it might end?”
Ciaran Kirk Technical Director of IMGS on Dublin City Council
“The term ‘paperless office’ has been used for the last ten or fifteen years without any real meaning, but in Dublin City Council it is rapidly becoming a reality. And because of the intuitive interface, they are finding – in the City Architects and across other departments – that they are using the CAB-i-NET system for all sorts of non-CAD documents as well. Because of the easy-to-use search and other utilities, it has been rapidly adopted by administrative staff and knowledge workers as their standard document management tool.”
Fay Ellard National CAD Manager from Westinghouse Rail Systems Limited, now Invensys
“Our CAD design teams work out of five distinct sites in the UK: at Birmingham, York, Glasgow, Croydon and Chippenham, and all - except Chippenham - have been long term users of CAB-i-NET’s predecessor, Falcon, with their own file servers and SQL databases. Each site operated perfectly well on a standalone basis, but if a project required sharing design resources, it caused major problems: staff would have to burn CDs and send them through the post, which created a large administrative burden and increased risk of further issues and potentially costly delays. The more people we have using CAB-i-NET, the better it is for the whole business in terms of flexibility, sharing of resources and support. CAB-i-NET offers structure and standardisation in design and process, which is a benefit to the users and the company, but we had to ensure what we were implimenting matched the business process.”
